He graduated with the Eatonville High School class of During his childhood, he was the self-proclaimed class clown, enjoyed playing sports, and dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot.

So great was his resolve, he could legally fly a plane before he could drive. He went on to attend Seattle University, but soon thereafter returned to his passion for flying by enlisting in the United States Air Force. Once married, they lived in and traveled to many different places from England to South Carolina, and back to Washington.

Gene served his country with courage and honor for over 20 years as a fighter pilot. He flew combat missions during his two tours in the Vietnam War. Gene earned a Distinguished Flying Cross for demonstrating "exemplary courage and outstanding aerial skill" in completing a mission over North Vietnam on September 21st, Following his time in the Air Force, he joined the Air National Guard in Spokane WA, where he could focus on being both a pilot and a very present father to his four children.

On one occasion serving in the Air Guard, he was honored in the Spokane Newspaper for guiding a lost private pilot to the airport on a dark, cloudy night. And on another, he volunteered to make an urgent delivery of a respirator needed for a baby in Oregon. He picked the fastest plane available and it took him just ten minutes to deliver it from Geiger Field to Portland! He retired from the Air Guard in Over the years, Gene pursued many passions and hobbies in his usual persistent manner.

He exercised his love for flying by owning his own airplane for 30 years, including regular stops in Eatonville to visit family and attend class reunions. Beekeeping , woodworking, gardening, fishing, and even crochet were some of his favorite hobbies, but his greatest passion was golf! He also enjoyed huckleberry picking and loved to make his signature huckleberry pie, always striving to strike the perfect balance between tart and sweet.

Each attempt was his own personal experiment, with his family being his taste-testers and the grandkids his occasional assistants. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. To members of the Eatonville community you are "new" to the area the Pecchia family, Gene's parents Regina and Angelo, were business people for many decades.

And, they were in a business everyone enjoyed immensely. Before TV, long before computers and streaming films and videos, people escaped to the "movies" for entertainment. Gene's dad, Angelo, came to America from Italy in and after visiting various places settled for a time in Aberdeen, Washington where he joined the National Guard and worked in the shipyard helping the war effort during World War I.

After moving to Orting Angelo bought a candy store which led him on the path to his movie business. The man Angelo rented his candy store from was unable to repay a debt to Angelo and offered him the Orting movie theater which he owned to cancel the debt. Although Angell had never even seen a roll of film he took the offer and through the years built a sizable chain of theaters on this side of Mount Rainier.

In he bought the Eatonville theater before "talkies. In Angelo traveled back to Italy to visit relatives and returned with a wife, Regina. Together the Pecchias raised their family, grew their ever - enlarging theater business and were a vital part of Eatonville's history.

DeMille's epic color films. Many residents of the area recall receiving their first kiss in the Roxy balcony. Both Angelo and Regina had excellent heads for business and with hard work and dedication built a sizeable empire of theaters and raised outstanding children, Gene was one of them.

In the mids when Dean Waddles and partner Mike bought the theater they made certain the vintage neon Roxy was restored and working. The colorful, glowing sign is still one of the most outstanding sights on Mashell Avenue and is a reminder of years long past. An interesting little note: Although everyone in the area mispronounced their last name Angelo and Regina just lived with it. The name is pronounced "Peckeeo" not "Peacheeo," and Regina was known by kids as Mrs.

Mom always looked forward to their Thanksgiving dinner every year. Lots of hustle and bustle in the preparation. She was also the chief cook and bottle washer as she called herself at their fishing resort, Wendy's, on Tanwax Lake.

Nobody could beat those burgers she made. People would drive down from Seattle on a Sunday afternoon just to have one of her burgers with that special "goop" she put on it. At this time, no services are planned.

Louie Mettler and a Buddy Louie Mettler passed away peacefully on August 3, , surrounded by family. Louie asked that we share these words. Too many roads to ride, too many things see. Son of Louis and Anna Mettler, he leaves a wife Kathy of 55 years, a son Lincoln, daughters Diane and Connie, as well as four granddaughters. He bought a three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder and was on the road again.

In the back field of the Mettler property, facing the mountain, is a cement post. Beside it the resting place for his ashes. Keith was born in Eatonville, Washington and lived there for 92 years. He was actually born in the second story of the pharmacy, which used to be a hospital.

He married Delores Jones in and they began their lives together as husband and wife, business partners and parents. They were happily married for 66 years and enjoyed that time together with family and friends. Keith and Delores worked as grocers, restaurant owners and opened various businesses in town. He managed the store from to and employed local people. Along with these projects, they also built the storage units, the mobile home park and office space across from Arrow Lumber.

Keith enjoyed his business endeavors and worked until he was 90 years old. These establishments connected the family with customers, friends and visitors of this town. He recently received an award from the American Legion for 70 years of membership.

He dedicated his life and time to help build this community and employed many of its youth and citizens. He was a man of integrity and led more by example than by words. In she married long time family friend Jim Tucon, where they enjoyed many wonderful adventures and road trips. Grandchildren, Joe Hallmann, Jr. She moved with her family to Tacoma, Washington at age 15, then to Alder when she married Joe Sander in She is survived by four children, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A private family memorial was held at her daughters home.

He graduated from Eatonville High School and remained close friends throughout the years with his classmates. Shortly after high school Ray entered into the logging industry. Loving the outdoors as he did, and always looking ahead for new adventures, it was then that he owned and operated Lynch Creek Quarry in Eatonville with his son Mark and daughter Terry for several years. The course opened in , it was quite an accomplishment. From there he semi-retired and took on an occasional local road job.

Ray was never one to stop and rest, at 80 years old he could still be found tinkering around in his shop or working out on his property. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Jackie of 67 years. There will be a private family grave side service at Bethany Cemetery where Ray will be laid to rest. Preceded in Death, Parents: A gracious, loving, giving hostess, she opened her home to many over the years, whether for a night or a year.

Many children and women have sat in Bible classes taught by Vera. She tutored children in the Eatonville School District. She and her husband served as house-parents for young girls and boys at Mt.

Dora Christian Home and Bible School for several years. She enjoyed sewing, decorating by wall-papering as well as gardening. And Vera was a pro on Riding Lawnmowers. Vera loved flowers, dogs, birds, cats and many farm animals.

The family thanks Multi-Care and Franciscan Hospice units for their kind, professional care. Jackie loved working in her yard and in the spring it was as eloquent and beautiful as she was.

During her 67 years with her husband Ray she wore several hats. Bookkeeper and administrator for 2 nursing homes they owned in Oregon, dispatcher and book keeper for their business at Lynch Creek Quarry, she helped build and landscaped Tanwax Greens GC the family owned business and throughout all that she was a hands-on mother of five.

The family would like to give special thanks to Pioneer Place Memory Haven for their love and care. Her parents were Clarence and Helen Jones and she was the oldest of eight children. She met Keith Malcom when she was working for his brother Barney at his restaurant where their love story began. She was May Queen in May of , graduated in June, turned 18 in July and married in August to begin the life as a loving wife, mother and business partner. Meanwhile, they had their first child, Gary, followed by Kathy, Linda and Diana.

She loved and appreciated her son-in-laws, Mike Knelleken and Waylan Jumper as well as her grandchildren: Delores was a lovely woman and we will remember her guidance, beauty, generosity and love.

In the Eatonville School District began a new program dedicated to Eatonville High School graduates who have served with distinction. Delores and Keith Malcom were rightfully among the first honorees.

I've been diagnosed with an ugly case of cervical spinal stenosis and two herniated discs. In some instances these conditions can be treated non-surgically.

This is not the case for me. I have been advised by several neurosurgeons that my spinal cord has already been damaged and that I risk further damage were I not to address the situation. Believe me, re scheduling a tour turns my stomach, but I believe this is the wisest choice given the prognosis.

On Tuesday I will undergo surgery. The procedure will fuse three vertebrae together with a small titanium plate. I have faith that this surgery will go as well as it can, and that I will be back in the saddle for our October-November tour. On behalf of my spine, deepest apologies to those who had been looking forward to seeing CLUTCH over the next two weeks. We'll make it up to you. The album then proceeded to hold its own on the Billboard Top for a total of 5 weeks. The digital demand for this album continues to be very strong.

In the week of release Earth Rocker shot to 4 on iTunes' overall Top album charts and was 1 in their rock chart. CLUTCH is wrapping up the summer on the European leg of their "Earth Rocker" World Tour which saw the band playing to sold-out houses at their headline shows as well as numerous festival appearances.

The band will back stateside after two sold out shows in Greece this weekend. The episode premieres tomorrow on VH1 Classic at Support on the headline tour in September will come from The Sword and Crobot. The start of the October leg of the tour will begin with another festival appearance in Virginia Beach, VA at "Localpalooza". Any fan's dream is to know what it's like to be on the road with a Rock and Roll band, but you may be surprised to see what it's really like - long periods of boredom, broken up by brief periods of intense activity and most of all hard work.
