Money is the root of evil and if things go wrong you will lose both your money and your friends. Why not give yourself the chance to win the hand right there without having to hit your draw? In many ways poker came very natural to me and seemed to be an extension of skills I already mastered. Nothing is 'hopeless' on Poker. How Poker is played I either score big when they miss on the river or take the pot down right here. That is why Poker is known as a game of gambling and is used in almost all of the casinos.

As I learned more of these fundamental poker lessons I would make tips for myself. Every now and again I would go back and read these tips just to get my head straight. Essentially these are tips I created over a few years time with some added detail to make them understandable to someone other than myself. By no means is this a complete reference of all Poker fundamentals as there are many that I may not even mention.

There is no particular order; I just wrote stuff as the light bulb turned on for me. There are exceptions to every one of these tips. The better you understand the game, the more exceptions you will find. I divided the tips up into 3 parts and will present them over the course of a couple weeks.

Let me hear from you if you find them useful. Hitting a Low Pair — Have the control to fold an under pair. Ok great you hit a pair of 9. Is this really a flop you want to commit money to holding J9os? Someone is very likely to be holding an A, a K, a flush draw, or a straight draw.

I see many players continue to invest money in a hand like this when in all likelihood they are completely dominated and have a very slim chance to win.

A Jack would give you 2 pair and also make someone else a straight or bigger 2 pair. Unless you hit runner, runner this hand with this flop is very, very dangerous. Small Pocket Pairs — Be able to fold small pairs in an early position or when the pot has been raised in front of you. Continually investing a lot of chips pre-flop with small pairs is a recipe for disaster.

You want to get into a pot cheap with a small pair. Often 1 or 2 things happens, you either just pick-up the blinds or you lose all your chips. Why waste a good hand and only get blinds to show for it? This also means you have to have enough control to lay down your KK when the flop has an Ace. Why Flip a Coin? Play poker not roulette. Make the Bet You Would Call — If you are in a position to bet, you should bet what ever you are willing to call.

You can still get a winning chance with two high value cards. Still you can bet a considerable amount if you get two cards of high values. This the exact opposite of the above system. You can get two different lower values Ex: As a general rule no card can be considered 'useless' until all the five cards are dealt on the table. But generally these small valued numbers have a less chance of producing a wining result.

But it is not to say that two lesser values wouldn't produce a 'Three of a Kind' or a 'Four of a Kind'. So basically nothing can be predicted on Poker until you have seen all the five cards, but still then you may get something wrong.

Notice that there are five cards in each of the Poker hands mentioned above. This is including the two cards you are dealt in the beginning and the three cards that will be unfolded later, known as the Flop and another card named the 'turn' and a final card named the 'river'. Don't worry these are just names gives to five cards that will be dealt face up on the table by the dealer.

Also notice that the above picture shows the Poker hands in order of their power to trump another pair from top to bottom. The Royal Flush is the bestest hand you can get in Poker and trumps any other hand anyone else has.

The hand combinations goes in that order. So now that you know what are the possible Poker hands you can get, we can get into the betting part. First of all get some chips and divide them in some order among your friends. Then get the dealer to deal two cards per player. Now take a look at your cards, carefully and remember them. You don't want to be lifting up your cards every now and then to check your cards. That's unprofessional and other players may get a sneak peek at your cards.

Now you may have any two cards from the deck of 52 cards. The moment you see the two cards your mind should be creating mental images as to what the two cards can possibly form or help form any of the Poker hands shown in the picture. There is absolutely no way of knowing what the other five cards the dealer will deal on to the table. So you will have to make a decision based on your instincts.

Let me ease up the decision making process Obviously it is always better to see two of the same cards in your hand than on the table, because other players don't know you have two of the same card and you only need one more of the same card to make a powerful 'Three of a Kind'.

Say in the five cards that come later contain another of the same cards as yours-then you have a 'Three of a Kind'. Bet big on that. Say the five cards contain two of the same card as you're holding-that is a 'Four of a Kind', one of the most powerful hands in Poker.

Even if you bet everything you have, your chances of losing are none to minimum. Even if you don't get the same card in the five cards, there are still possible chances of winning. You have two cards of the same value, and lets say that the five cards contain two cards of the same value, but not quite the same value as ours.

You have two cards-a 5 of Spades and a 5 of Diamond. And the five cards has a Queen of Clubs and a Queen of Hearts. In this case you do have a 'Two Pair', which is also a pretty good hand. But somehow for your dumb-luck if another player has a Queen of Spade or Queen of Diamond, you are doomed!!! Rather than using money, it is safe to use poker chips when you play with your friends. Different Poker chips have different values which are marked with different colors.
