You can show up and if there is a site not reserved, you can stay at it. We camped at Meade State Park in a Motorhome. We stayed here a night. A bit run down, probably due to state budget issues. No staff while we were here, self-pay a bit difficult to suss out. Overall a good experience, especially with the flock of wild turkeys in the early morning. This is a very beautiful park on a lake. However, we were so frustrated by the time we got here, we couldn't enjoy it.

First we pulled into the entrance but it wasn't staffed, no instructions and no visible camping. We drove further and found some campers but there was a locked gate into the sites. So we drove all around the lake and this time we saw a tiny sign which was a picture of a man by a building.

This was the right entrance. At the self pay station the map didn't have a "you are here" indication so we couldn't understand it so we drove around. Very confusing signs indicated different grades of sites yet no where at the sites did it indicate anything. We drove back to the station to see the map.

Then we chose a site and then had to walk a long ways back to the station to pay. All sites appear to be reserved for the weekend. No sign indicating a camp host and no one around to get some help. No TV reception with antenna. Beautiful place to stay for Kansas. Definitely will go back! Tight roads and turns with back-in only camping spots. Lots of big, old cottonwood trees. The night we decided NOT to stay here there was a huge thunderstorm with 50 mph winds, so we were very glad not to be parked under those trees.

Push-button showers that ran for seconds between pushes. Very weak water stream in showers. Hidden gem in the middle of southwestern Kansas.

State Park rather small, but well-kept and scenic. Lots of trees, small lake, lots of birds and squirrels. This late in the year meant few campers, so there were just 3 others during the 3 nights we stayed. Peace and quiet everywhere. Only complaint not enough signs and markers to navigate the various camping areas successfully, had to go back through several times until we found the spot we reserved.

And, when we finally found it, there was another camper already on the site. Because there were so many vacancies, we just let them keep it and found another. Other than that, really good value for the money. Could get crowded during the summer, but late fall is really nice. Very small town of Meade within 15 miles, very little in the way of shopping. Best bet is to go to Liberal, 30 miles west by county roads then US They have just about everything you could need.

We stayed here one night as we were passing thru. No shade and the Mosquitos were terrible. Probably wouldn't stay here if there was was somewhere else to stay.

Not terrible but not great. Nice spot, far off the beaten path. You wouldn't expect this little oasis in the middle of the sorghum fields. Loooong drive to anything, so don't plan on running to the grocery store for milk after you arrive. The lake is nice and has picnic tables near the water, as well as a few play areas for kids. Sandy beach and fishing. Verizon signal reaches weakly OK with booster. Shady sites and plenty of open space.

This State Park is quiet and most sites have a view of the lake. Swimming in on the opposite side of the lake.

The dump station is positioned such that only the last campground can use it upon entry or exit.
