Or you can avoid both problems by using Rasp and Osmose to drain his MP instead, which will also kill him and keeps him stuck in his simplest attack pattern. The boss Wrexsoul can be rather complicated to defeat. You're supposed to kill your own party members until he emerges from hiding, and then attack him.
Or, you know, you could just cast Banish , that works just as well if you don't mind not getting the Item Drop. That the Soul Savers are vulnerable to Banish and this was not changed in re-releases suggests it may have been intended. The SoulSavers are scripted to endlessly respawn when they die, but if you kill both of them with Banish, that script is delayed a turn. The otherwise-challenging boss Phantom Train happens to be undead, so you can throw a Phoenix Down at it and end the fight in one round.

However, even temporary playable characters, like General Leo, Banon, and Locke's merchant disguise, have the same animations, so if you hack or glitch them into the party, they still work. Even Esper Terra and the Imp, which are normally impossible to have as party leaders, have a full range of animations they never use, just in case.
However, the developers didn't have full foresight. Temporary playable characters lack Chocobo-riding sprites, so riding one with them as party leader makes them glitch up. You know how party members not in the party loiter around the airship deck?
If you somehow hack or glitch Umaro or Gogo into your party in the World of Balance, they still have places assigned to them in the Blackjack for them to appear when they're not in the party. The same goes for Shadow who normally isn't ever seen on the airship in the World of Balance.
Many scenes dynamically choose who will speak at any given point based on who's in your party, prioritizing more plot-central characters. A lot of these lines are "generic" and can be spoken by anyone; however, if you bring Gau as your only party member to certain scenes such as meeting Ramuh , the generic dialog will be replaced by his Hulk Speak.
When you order food aboard the Phantom Train, the scene plays differently depending on who the party leader is, including the Ghosts that join as guests. If you try to bring Shadow to Narshe, where you would have the option of changing your party, he leaves.
He also leaves if you hire him before going to the opera house, in case you thought to try and get him to come to Vector. When Locke heads into the South Figaro secret basements, he acts differently based on his current outfit. As a merchant or in his normal clothes he hides from the Imperial leaving Celes' room, but as a soldier he pretends to be standing on guard and salutes as they pass. Celes in turn reacts differently to him depending on his outfit. It all leads to the same place, but different choices give you rewards based on your etiquette during the dinner.
The fight to defend the Esper in Narshe. You have to split up your 7 characters into 3 different parties, typically putting characters per party. You then have to move all three groups to blockade the imperial troops from reaching Banon.
The fights are reasonably challenging, depending upon the make-up of each party, but not too bad. What makes it really hard is that the imperial troops keep moving even when control is taken away from the player during battles starting and ending. This makes it pretty hard to heal your characters, or in a worse case scenario, move a party to stop a soldier from reaching Banon automatic game over. Enemies suddenly have enough HP to survive more than one round from you, they begin using magic attacks regularly, and one type of enemy can even use items to heal itself or allies.
Another throws weapons at you for a ton of damage. It's also one of the few dungeons to not have a save point.
The random encounters are much stronger than you expect if the party had trouble beating the Air Force boss they fought earlier, they should get off the continent and start grinding , and on top of that, Ultima Weapon can be surprisingly powerful.
Further compounding the problem, should you decide to save, you cannot get off unless you get through the entire dungeon! That's right, the cop out is right before Ultima Weapon, so you still have to fight incredibly difficult random encounters and trudge through the entire dungeon just to get off of the freaking island! The evade stat works properly so that you can't be nigh unkillable with just magic evade anymore and it also means that enemies can actually dodge your physical attacks since evasion now works.
Blind actually works properly and you'll have to deal with it when it pops up. People refer to the Dinosaur Forest enemies as dragons. Also, the designs for dinosaurs are used as Palette Swaps for actual dragons. Even before that, the game attempts a brief Disc One Ending Sequence , complete with everyone laughing and Locke waving to the camera.
And then Kefka shows up Auto Crossbow will end most enemy encounters instantly until around Zozo, and the Drill can one-shot most regular enemies even after that and does excellent damage to bosses.
Sabin likewise begins with powerful Blitzes and will unlock Rising Phoenix capable of One Hit Multi Killing entire groups of regular enemies at about the time Auto Crossbow's usefulness starts to wane.
A Genji Glove, which allows Dual Wielding and effectively doubles physical damage, can be had very early if you know to refuse a But Thou Must!

You have easy access to rages that deal 4x physical damage, wipe out entire enemy parties with Wind Slash, can cast Fira, Thundara, Bio or Cura long before you're supposed to have them, and several of the game's more useful Blue Magic Spells.
Then there is Quake and Gigavolt, which is equivalent to Thundaga, which you can't learn until the second half! Stray Cat alone will carry you up until the Floating Continent. His Gigavolt attack can kill several bosses in one strike! When Doma is poisoned, Cyan can explore the rest of the castle, where he can find the last of the living soldiers near the barracks door staring at the wall saying " Entering the barracks makes Cyan stop just before entering the room, staying there for the few seconds, close the door, barely move back and say " How the Empire was making its Magitek knights before it became obsolete with the discovery of magicite of course, you destroying the Magitek Research facility didn't help either.

And after that, there's Vector, where guards will be eager to boot you out of the upper part of town. In the World of Ruin, Narshe is all but abandoned, and monsters swarm the streets, and Owzer's House is invaded by a haunted painting Earn Your Happy Ending: Probably one of the kings of this trope, as the world ends halfway through the game.
Or at least, it nearly ends. Yet by the time the credits roll, most of the main cast has resolved their core conflicts and can move on with their lives.
